University of East London
We’ve supported UEL’s ambitious 10-year strategy to become the UK’s leading careers-intensive university by creating flexible spaces that support them to work in an entirely new way.
Following the pandemic, the Professional Services staff wanted more variety in their workspace to support their new working styles. Our brief was to create a pilot space for staff to trial different work settings depending on the activity they were undertaking. We worked closely with the Projects & Estates Development team and the end users to understand the needs and demands of future occupants. We transformed an unloved area into an inclusive, dynamic space with multiple working purposes: collaborative spaces, quiet zones, individual pods for Teams calls and a social environment for reconnecting with colleagues.

"My favourite thing is the ability to meet new people and interact within the space... I absolutely love the new space and seeing how it develops and grows with us as a directorate."

Through rich branded graphics and a dedicated web portal, we brought staff along the journey of change virtually - utilising digital whiteboard sessions and regular messages to create a feedback loop and keep everyone in the know. Further digital consultation is being used to ensure the space is persistently monitored to reflect evolving requirements.
