Department for Education

Grade II listed Old Admiralty Building in Horseguards Parade is being transformed into the new home for The Department for Education. With our unique knowledge, we are helping to restore and enhance one of Whitehall’s most recognisable landmarks.

Making the most of heritage

We have been working with the Department for Education (DfE) over the past four years to improve the effectiveness of their national building portfolio. Having successfully achieved this (12 buildings to 6) the OAB project is the final part of a national programme of work. We provided the brief to turn this cellular historic building into a modern flexible working environment. We increased the occupancy from c.900 to c.2,500 and delivered the Work Stage 2 concept design. This formed the foundations of the current refurbishment project being undertaken in partnership with BDP Architects. We have been retained by the DfE to act as a Design Authority and provide a conduit between the DfE and the design team.
